US ROUTE 54 IN NEWMEXICO

Question

I am planning a trip through the Southwest this summer (I know, wrong time of year for that) and would like to know what US 54 is like through New Mexico. It has been many years since I drove it last and it wasn't too bad then, but am wondering how it is now.

No issues when we drove it from Alamogordo to El Paso and back last year.

From Carrizozo nm South to El Paso , no issues 4 lane.  From Carrizozo North to I-40 they are still working it to make it 4 lane. (work in Progress). Most is finish but still some in work.  Just came down On this past Monday.
