VAN CONVERSION

Bought a high top conversion van 3 weeks ago. 1999--62,000 miles. Very good price. It had a 2nd AC unit on top and a built in generator dedicated to the AC. This is strictly a one person camper van.
Here's what I did.
Cut the generator power cord to the AC and added 2 plugs. One allows the generator to power anything I hook up and the second allows the AC to be powered by shore power.
Devised a small self contained water system using a 5 gallon water cooler bottle and a 5 gallon bucket from Lowes. Made a sink out of a stainless steel mixing bowl and added a drain to the bucket. Got a small electric pump for the source bottle and works great. Cost less than $50.
Got a discounted cabinet and a high end, large counter top that was priced $10 instead of $90 because of some small damage. Then, cut to size.
Got a small AC/DC fridge from Home Depot for $175. Built a cabinet around it.
Got a Porta Potty and set it on a raised platform and built the box to conceal it.
Got a large cot and airbed since the built in couch was too small for me. Kept the one seat in back which will need to be moved for the cot but will also be used for general seating while eating, reading or watching TV.
Everything is attached to the hardware already on the floor of the van.
Got 2 good 25' extension cords and one 30 to 20 amp converter for shore power when available.
I'll probably add a 100 w solar panel and 2nd battery for alternative power rather than using the generator all the time.
Also got a microwave and toaster oven at garage sales for a few bucks. Not sure if I'll permanently attach to counter top or store.
I've discovered that bungee cords are very handy.
Can't figure out how to add pictures here but have some on my FaceBook page--TOM SIMS.

My FB image is MT RUSHMORE.
  • If you go to your FB album with the pictures, you can find a link that will allow anyone to see the photos. Find the share link at the bottom of the album.

I am just about to mount my microwave up to the side to free up counter space. Got a toaster on the counter. Yes, bungee cords are wonderful and so are small cargo nets. Easy to see what ya got. In fact, I am planning on scrounging up a couple net shopping bags to put dry stuff in and hang on side so dont have to search in a bin for what I want.
