We went in July. We stayed at the Grand Canyon Camper Village right outside the gate to the South Rim. The daytime temps were perfect for hiking and outdoor activities at that elevation. One night, it was down in the 30's. Be careful, the wind can be quite impressive during the afternoons up there. Down in the canyon, you can expect temperatures into the 100's at that time of year during the day. If you plan on a hike, into the canyon, take plenty of water and pace yourself. We did not get a chance to head up to the North Rim, but I hear that it is impressive. Keep in mind. You can't just "hop, skip and jump" over to the North Rim in the same day.
