Washing a Class A RV

So, my 2008 Winnebago Destination RV was finally delivered Saturday. I KNOW!

To get here, it traversed the Eastern Seaboard, from Alabama to Maine, in basically a three day rainstorm. Thus accumulating a light coating of dusty road debris. At first, I tried rinsing it off with a gentle rain shower setting on the garden hose nozzle.

Well, that didn't really work. So short of a true & full handwashing, are there any modern era products that I can attach through a garden hose that will wash/rinse the coach?

What is your best way that you use to wash your motorhome?
  • Yesterday I started cleaning mine but it's to hot hotside so I'm using the Griot waterless wash product while it's in the new Beaver Barn.

Wonderful stuff so easy and no water spoting. Takes a bit of time but it easy work so it almost doesn't matter.

Hardest part is washing the windows....lots glass on this coach.
  • I like that leaf blower idea and I carry one to blow out the trailer I pull behind the DP---trailer adds another 32ft to wash.
  • Many have suggested how to wash.

I am going to suggest a great way to rinse. I take a garden sprayer that attaches to a hose and fill it with white vinegar. I put it on the highest setting and mist down the entire rig as a final rinse. it usually takes one refill of the sprayer. So, I use about 1/2 gallon each time I wash. The water sheets off really well.

We have pretty hard water and the vinegar removes the minerals that cause spots.

I dry the reachable part with a real chamois, but the top still air dries practically spot free.
  • Long-handled soft bristle brush. Lots of wash and wax, lots of water, lots of pushing that brush. Because most of the time you are spraying overhead, it works better as a swimsuit job in swimsuit weather.

Same tools, hand wash the Honda Fit about 15-20 minutes, Econoline Wagon about 20-45 minutes, 30 foot of motorhome three hours. Your motorhome is bigger.

Well since I just finished about an hour ago your answer is NO!----Soft brush with a long handle, good soap, (I use Dawn dish soap), and a magic eraser to get the well attached bugs. A good job takes awhile.

Dawn dish soap or any similar product will remove any wax on the MH. I recommend a brand name car wash product.

X2 on not using Dawn. Any dish washing detergent is about the worst thing to use on a car, truck or RV unless you're stripping off the wax in preparation to re-wax. I use a good quality car wash soap, or better yet a product called RV Wash n Wax. Cleans well and leaves a nice shine. My coach is a Newmar and they recommend using a lambs wool mitt. I have a hand mitt and one on an extension pole. Newmar specifically says not to use a bristle brush no matter how "soft" on full body paint coaches. Brushes will eventually cause spider scratches in the clearcoat.
