This may have been discussed at times earlier, but I don't know when it was. We were in Fl. over the winter and some of the campgrounds that we were in had no wifi unless you went to the rec room or office. In some campgrounds the distance from your site to the rec room was a pretty good distance so we would have to drive or take a long walk. I am hoping to find out from this forum if there is a device that one can purchase to get a stronger signal from the camper. I have heard some things about a hot spot item, but maybe there might be better things to get to enhance the signal from the camper so that one would not have to make a trip to the rec room whenever one needs or wants to use the internet. Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance.William

I've never used one but I've heard of a device called Wilson Cradle that does just what your talking about. Look on ebay or amazon.

I have had good luck with a Rokland N3 booster. Got it to assist with weak campground wifi.

There are many signal boosters/amplifiers on the market check out this Google search for starters.Even with a strong signal your bandwidth will be limited by what the campground provides and the other users you will be sharing with (everyone else in the park). We get around this with Verizon Jetpack (or MiFi depending on when you buy it). This is a little box, smaller than a mobile phone which uses the data side of the signal and provides a wifi hotspot in your coach. The cost is about $100 one time and a monthly fee for data. You can opt for 2, 4, or more gigabytes per month. I suspect you could get by with 2 or even 1 if they go that low and have them notify you if you are going to exceed it so you can increase it. I'm guessing it will run about $40 a month. Not cheap but it provides a private, secure signal in your coach anyplace you have Verizon phone service.I imagine ATT and others offer a similar service, but I know about Verizon since I am a customer.

I have good luck with something like this for less than $40. Much the same as the Bear above plus you get the yagi antenna. Does not need to be mounted outside and it lets you sit in the car at McDonald and snag their signal.

We use the Verizon MIFI and I purchased a Wilson 2B5125 with external antenna. If we have the least bit of a signal on our phone the Wilson will boost it to where we can get decent wifi. The MIFI sets in the cradle of the Wilson. If we have good signal we do not use the Wilson. Wasn't cheap but has worked for us real well. We do not use our cell phones for internet only the MIFI. The problem with most campground WIFIs is not signal strength. It is bandwidth plain and simple. Too many people sucking on the same fixed size straw. We fought this issue for years. Last year we bought a Netgear hotspot through our AT&T cell service. If you have a cell signal you have Internet. It runs great, but it does require a data plan. Ours is 8GB and between the two of us, we can eat that up in three weeks when snowbirding. We happily pay the overage rather than trying to feed at the trough with several hundred other campers.

Several years ago my wife and I maintained a list of campgrounds equipped with a WiFi system. We finally stopped updating the list as WiFi service in campgrounds was almost ubiquitous. About eight years ago the two top campground upgrade items were updated electrical and the addition of WiFi. Back in the early days systems were poor including the antennas.

During the past five years most parks have upgraded their systems so the need for external antennas is seldom an issue. Customers must remember these systems are not set up to stream movie content but rather to access email and do general Internet browsing.

If you want streaming bandwidth you will generally need to subscribe to a cellular 4G system plan and pay the associated price.

I tried a booster and then sold it and went w/ the Verizon MIFI 3GB plan. It cost 100 new and 35/mo. We use it when the campground's wifi is busy and overloaded. We also use it for any banking or financial work because it is more secure than the campgrounds wifi! At home for about 8 months/yr we sometines go over the 3GB but is still cheaper in the long run than upgrading.
