For shelves in cabinets I just used lots of short drywall screws. For other things MOLY bolts are good. Be sure to get them short enough to fit in the space inside the walls. A supporting board is good but be sure it is well anchored to the wall. Whatever you mount on the board is trying to pry it off the wall, I would use more fasteners on the top edge.
