On my P30 the trans cooler is in the same spot as yours, if you move it out of the front of the radiator, your trans temp might rise.
I installed a trans temp gauge on mine, and going over some steep passes I will get trans temps of 200-210, so if you move that cooler from out in front where it is getting air, you might get high temps
Is your fan kicking in when the temps rise? my 454 holds temp at 210, only when climbing will it rise up to 220 then the clutch fan kicks in and brings the temp down.
Also at least on mine 1995, there is no radiator baffle or shroud on the outside of the radiator.
would like to know how hot your engine gets.
you never did say how hot your engine gets
It has a mechanical fan with a new clutch. I can hear it kicking in. I don't k ow how hot it gets since I only recently installed the temp gauge. I was relying on the stock gauge which seems to be accurate. The middle looks like 220 according to the new gauge. On a recent trip, before the new temp gauge, the stock gauge pegged in the red a couple of times. It ran to the right of center the whole trip.
Maybe I'll keep the trans cooler where it is. There's a trans temp gauge installed in mine but it was never hooked up. I bought a sender for it. I'm also going to get a deep pan with cooling tubes in it. It also has a bung for the sender and a drain.
I know the 454's have a reputation for running hot, but I have heard from several people, and now you, that they can and do run cool.
