For a number of years we carried an 18 inch antenna and tripod for our SD DirecTV. We are out sightseeing practically every day and we found it a pain to to set up/take down the portable antenna each day.
A few years ago we bought the Winegard crank up antenna. Our Winnebago was prewired for satellite, so all I had to do was drill two holes through the roof (the scary part) and connect to the wires already there. Now when we pull into our site, we just connect the receiver, crank up and aim the antenna and we're good to go. Especially great when it's raining or for an after dark arrival.
