What Dish Are You Using For Satellite TV

We already have a DirecTV account and will be using a Standard Def receiver. Being new to the RV world, we're wondering what others are using for a dish. We need to make a decision as to whether to use a portable dish sitting on the ground or install a dish of some sort on the roof. So what is everyone using and why? What are the advantages of a portable over a mounted roof dish or vice versa? Chuck

  • For SD, we always used the rooftop crank-up Winegard TV dish. Don't have to go out in the weather to set it up. Now with HD, we have the Winegard trav'er up there. But we also carry a cheapo Winegard 18" "pizza" dish for those rare occasions when we can't get a sky shot from wherever we park. So far used it just once. The little Winegard is extremely easy to point - just set the elevation and point it where the compass (or smart phone app) says. Only time I used it, nailed the point on first try - didn't even have to tweak. Beginners luck, maybe . . .
