After nearly getting stuck turning around on a narrow road to nowhere, we have now added a folding shovel to our under-the-seat stash of tools.What else should we be carrying for emergency road situations?

Good Sam ERS Card is all I carry.

I got a set of shop manuals for cheap on ebay. I figure if I am out in the boonies, no cell service, and no one comes by...Orange cones (dollar store), reflective vest, fix a flat, tools including but by no means limited to soldering iron and baling wire.

I too would reach for my Good Sam ERS card first. I do have flares, a flasher, and about 50 ft of heavy rope. Yes I have a shovel, but I've had it since the kids were in Scouts, and a hand axe (same reason). With an older smaller RV I used to have snow chains (which could also be used for soft ground). I carried the chains when we used to take the 32fter to the snow. Now, I'm older and sorer, and I would just call.

AT&T is a close 2nd but eventually I know we will need Verizon when we full-time it. On a trip to the Sierra's last summer we found that areas we normally got T-mobile had actually lost coverage.

I always carry my sheriff department issue riot gun. It's short and compact.

Not even Verizon. They ARE #1, but AT&T is a close second, and the overlap is far from perfect. My phone is AT&T, and my wife's is Verizon. It is not at all unusual for my phone to be the only one working. As Rockhillmanor says, having one of each is the only way to maximize availability.

Wife has Verizon and I have AT&t. Covers us in most of USA, except a few Indian reservations.

Only Verizon is everywhere there are cell towers. I know this because I have T-Mobile and when we are in the Sierra's we often do not have coverage but Verizon does. There are also many places where there is no cell coverage period.

I always have 2 phones 2 different carriers in any vehicle I travel in.

With the cheap no contract phones available now it's a small price to pay for the insurance that you can make a phone call.
