I will go along with not liking the dark interior, never been in a S&B as dark as most big rigs.
What scares me is we visited with some folks in "Q" last week and their Monaco gets 1 to 3 MPG towing their full sized chevy pickup with a Razor in the bed. Over $700,000 and really poor fuel consumption.
Your friend should have his coach checked out 1 to 3 mpg is not the norm for even the largest of motor homes.
X2, that is not normal.
At 55,500 lbs, we get between 6.5-6.8 mpg. We have a 20,000 lb. towing capacity but the little Honda does just fine at 3,400 lbs.
I'm wondering if the fellow has a CAT in his Monaco. When we had our Dynasty, I was parked next to a guy with a Monaco that had the CAT engine. He was complaining about the low mileage in the 4-5 range. We were getting about 7.5 mpg with our Cummins in our 40,000 lb. Dynasty (our motorhome was larger than his).
On edit: I'm not dogging CAT's (no pun intended, LOL), they do need a valve adjustment at 30,000 miles. CAT's are strong engines. The guy needs to get it checked out.
Safe travels,
MM.
