Everyone is different, but you brought up Newmar as an example. I'm similar to "Busskipper" in recommending the Mountain Air as a great coach, without a bunch of glitz. It has all the amenities with a big motor. I wish I could buy the Mountain Air, but it had two issues that didn't work for me. One, I couldn't afford it and two, I wanted to stay at 40' long.
You also mentioned the Comfort Drive system and as usual, some guy comes on that doesn't have it and immediately criticizes it....I never understand that. I added the TruCenter steering stabilizer to my last coach. It allowed you to adjust for wind push or road crown by just pushing a button. When you live out west, just about every trip involves wind.
The Comfort Steer is similar to the TruCenter, but MUCH more exotic. Rather than steer the coach straight and then push the TruCenter button, the Comfort Steer does this automatically.
Personally, I think people get so use to driving with it, that there is no hoopla about it. The system looks at wind and road crown and adjusts automatically with very little steering input. It also lets you decide how much effort you want to use to turn/steer. The system always returns to straight ahead when you release the wheel, even when not moving. It really makes a long driving day much easier.
There will still be naysayers, but Newell uses the system and it will no longer be a proprietary product after 2015. I'll bet you'll start seeing it on many more coach lines.
