IIRC I read that a good baseline for trans temp is approx. 100+ outside temp.On two different tow vehicles I've owned (99 f250 towing 8800 lb fver and 06 f350 towing 13,000 lb f'ver) this formula was close, both would average 180-190 summer time towing
Strangely enough I would get more of a tempature rise in stop and go traffic than I would on long grade.I have had temps go as high as 220-230 in stop/go traffic but cooled to normal as soon as normal speed could be attained
As captain mentioned as long as it cools down after a hard pull you should be good to go
