I have the 4L80e trans too and pulling a trailer across the country it stayed around 180... Going over the Great Divide and pulling mountains in Oregon it ran around 200-210.. I would find a rest area after a long pull and let it idle for a while and cool.. If you go over 220 I would not want it to stay there too long.. Best thing you can do is change the transmission filter in the pan... It also lets you look inside to check the health of the transmission..
