What the heck is this

Re stealing the roof on the camper. What is this white junk. I'm going to use 100% silicone to seal the cracks. And denatured alcohol to make the surface ready.
Someone re sealed this year's ago. What's this white crap?

    I think it may be the stuff used on houses, KOOL Kote, it is supposed to be a sealer etc. Sticks ok when new but does as you have when old. Again do not use silicone on RV's as noted, does not last. If you redo with the kool kote, make sure you wash the roof with a vinegar solution to give some clean metal for it to stick to. Vinegar is acidic and is used to prep some metals for painting does not need to be 100%. do a search.

    Just gave it a wash down after cleaning off the other gunk as well. It's looking better! Now to let it dry then seal in the barn once it's cooled off a bit.

    I would use your Cool Top over the whole thing after getting loose stuff off.

    Your construction buddy is wrong. RVs are not the same as what he constructs. Go to an RV repair place for advice, not someone whom doesn't have an RV nor knows anything about them.

    I still new he was in trouble after reading his post even if my post was edited.

    Your coach looks like it should have had a metal roof on it originally.
    It looks like someone has used a roof coating over most of the roof. It will be difficult to use any of the better sealants like Dicor.
    You will need to remove by scrapping any of the loose materials and hoepfully not damage the metal.
    The silicone may have negatice effect on the existing coating and cause more problems.
    You maybe better off to use a brush on elastimeric coating such as Kool Seal.

    Just a humble opinion here... if you spend some time reading on this Forum before you jump, you'll be much more effective when you do jump. For example, a search here for something along the lines of "roof caulk" would have told you to stay away from silicone on the roof as well as what caulk you SHOULD use on your particular roof material. There is a wealth of knowledge here and plenty of folks to answer even the question never seen before (good luck coming up with a question never seen before :) ). But read and/or post BEFORE you jump.

    OK, go ahead and use silicone. Its your RV. Lowes probably doesn't have Dicor anyway. If no RV place near, order over the internet and have it delivered. The reason the white junk is sticking so well is because its probably Dicor, not silicone.
