I agree with the "If it ani't broke don't fix it" school presented by Frank Damp.
However.. There are two swap out scenarios.
1: The mounts and connections line up (Not all that unlikely) Job is easy
2: They don't.. Major metal work needed to mount the new genny (Also not that unlikely).
Suggestion: Mount the ONAN in a shed behind the house (one of those pre-fab tool sheds you get at Home Depot). Feed it to a proper GENERATOR transfer switch.. I do not think the Onan Emerald Gold can be rewired for 120/240 volt but if it can, do so, if not, then on the generator transfer panel only put 120 volt loads (That is what I did).. Feed it fuel once a month and run it for 30 minutes under at least 2,500 watts load (I used a pair of 1500 watt space heaters) Leave at least one key light in the hose OFF the transfer panel.
When (not if) the power company fails.. Fire up genny, Start flipping switchs on the transfer panel
Click, LIGHTS
CLick HEAT
Click Fridge
Click Freezer
CLick Radios, television, computers, modems (may be multiple clicks)
Finally turn on that key light (it will, of course remain dark)
When light comes on
Switch back and kill generator
