Gutfelt: I can only tell you what my Tax assessor Bill reads. If you want an Idea of how much people pay for their property, go to realtor. com or trulia . com. Usually they have a Picture graph of the yr'ly expenses regarding a house and it includes property tax. For example if I get on realtor . com and look up a mil dollar home in Vermont the property taxes would be around 2k a month, hence 24k a yr. Here in San Antonio it's almost the same. Now if you want to know my tax rate, which I have here black on white in front of me, I painfully and shamefully must tell you it's 2.65%.
I'm sure california is higher but I feel you left something out and that your calculations may be 1or 2 zeros off.
just paid my california taxes and the riverside county rate is 1.25% which is high compared to BC where my house is at .6 % plus we get a tax grant of $1035 so brings down to about .455%
now yours at 2.65% YIKES I see your point for sure
