When have I reasonably earned a state sticker?

Just got a US state sticker map. Idea is that the kids can put stickers on the map (mounted on RV) as we travel through other states. My question is; is there a commonly accepted rule of thumb that...

Myself, I've never like stickers or such on my vehicles. Same with the coach. Instead found a large magnetic map and mark every came site we've stayed, were our next vacation stops are and bucket list places. Got a world map also.





They are expensive but look great on the wall.
