We've been in Laughlin when it was so windy we could literally and honestly not open the MH door because of wind pressure. The last few days have been rather windy (I won't say exceptionally, because our winds are rather normal) but the wind is supposed to stop today and tomorrow 4/17/16 is supposed to be beautiful. I'd wait for tomorrow if you can. If you must travel, unhooking the toad really is of no help. Just plan on driving slower since your speed plus the wind speed is often cumulative. Driving 45mph on the Pearblossum Highway with a head wind of 40mph will make the awning slap back and forth...I've seen a few actually pull out and be damaged on the road.
The worst/dangerous portion will be on the 1-15 between Victorville and Riverside, as you go over the mountain sudden gusts appear between the ridges, this is the area where big rigs are often flipped. So even if you are careful and slow you need to be aware of the box next to you.
Be careful, and Happy Trails.
