Disappointed to say the least. It's a dilemma trying to figure out if you're over the hump or not. If you are, you could be set for a long time with periodic maintenance. Maybe you can get someone that knows m/h's in and out to go over it with you and see what they think. Some of the work you described as having already done, I think I would have done it myself. Easy for me to say, not knowing your qualifications. I think you've also overpaid for some of the work. Many mechanics like to see your checkbook coming and think they can overcharge you. Shop around, ask on here, check the price for parts yourself.
A fair point. I'm not afraid to try things myself, although I've been known to mess things up even worse by doing that and end up going to the professional and paying even more than I would have if I'd gone to them in the first place. I don't consider retapping into the transmission housing or replacing a fuel pump on such a large vehicle routine tasks. I did attempt to replace the starter, but the bolts were so rusted, I cranked the head right off one of them and had to get the shop down the road to fix that mistake. And granted, I should've been able to take off the roof A/C unit to find the roof leak, but was afraid to do so, not being familiar enough with that sort of thing. The local RV repair shop is basically the only game in town - not much competition and they do good work, so they're expensive.
Since I had to have it towed this last time, it's at an official Ford truck repair shop in Memphis, TN having the fuel pump replaced. Wasn't sure where else to tell them to take it. So that's one reason the price is a little high. I think they included a new chassis battery in that price as well.
