Dr Edward Deming wrote the book on total quality management. The Japanese manufacturers took these concepts to heart after WWII, and their high-quality motorcycles almost killed Harley-Davidson in the early 70's and 80's. Harley survived and flourished by adapting the concepts used in Japanese factories. Domestic manufacturers in the 40's shunned Dr. Deming's concepts, and we ended up with a lot of crappy products. RV manufacturers could definitely build better products, but they choose not to, because there are plenty of customers that are more impressed by the latest floor plan and snazzy paint jobs than quality.
In the meantime, there are quality coaches you can get at almost any price point. While Prevosts and Newells fit the bill, their complexity may require a maintenance schedule too expensive for some. But Country Coaches, Foretravels, and older Monacos are still available in a wide price range.
