If you're going to use a portable ladder to get on your roof it better be a real big sturdy one, unless you're 24 years old and in excellent shape and weigh 130 pounds. There is some physics involved when you try and get from the top of that ladder onto the roof and that ladder will want to move away from the motorhome. The same with getting back on it. I do not have enough room in my motorhome to carry a big enough and sturdy enough ladder, that I would feel safe using to get on the roof of my motorhome.
A long extension ladder leaning against the motorhome would probably be the safest, but then you have to make sure you don't scratch up the motorhome. And even it can slide side to side.
