- MerliskExplorerI was thinking of using a Flojet and pumping my gray tank into a Thetford in the bed of my truck. This would allow me to easily tote the Tote to the dump station when we have a multi-day stay at a campground that doesn't have sewer connections at the site.
Has anyone done this? Any suggestions or warnings?
(Note: I don't plan on emptying the black tank this way since it's large enough for my family to use for a week+ without dumping.) - HeapieExplorerHi Folks,
A couple quick comments. 1. I have never been refused or charged at a public sewer company. 2. I found a local public sewer company that is free and very helpful. I believe that they would rather see our sewer dumped in their facility than on the side of a road.
Heapie - wincrasher65ExplorerYeah, but when he breaks it all down and puts it in his storage compartment, who's to say which hose is used later for his potable water, and which for his sewer? It may not matter if there is a good check valve, but I'd bet it's a cheap plastic one.
That's why I'm a believer in color coding hoses. You could do it with tape, I suppose. - DavyddExplorerWincrasher,
This person uses two different hoses connected to the water source. One is used only for the the Sewer Solution and one is fresh water only. In this photo one of the water hoses was connected to the city water fill inlet and not to the fresh water tank. Unfortunately in this Pleasure-way Excel the city water inlet shares a utility cabinet with the dump station which is a 3" gravity dump. My city water inlet on my Great West Van Legend is in a separate cabinet shared with the fresh water tank fill and is away from the dump. - mlts22ExplorerThat is something I'm curious about -- how a macerator pump works with the grey water pump on the Travato.
With a Sewer Solution, I don't think it will be an issue. Water runs, and regardless if there is water coming out or no, no harm, no foul. With a macerator pump, there is that stage of tank -> GW pump -> macerator pump which may run the second pump dry if the GW pump runs slower than the macerator pump. - wincrasher65Explorer

Davydd, that's a sewer solution. Different than a macerator.
"High velocity water jet pulls sewage from the RV sewer pipe and ejects it out the discharge hose. Liquefies waste and tissue. Pumps up to 8 gallons per minute. No installation necessary. Just twist onto your RV sewer pipe in place of the cap. Requires min. 15 psi water pressure through standard garden hose. Includes fiberglass-reinforced ABS pump unit, 10' dump hose, garden hose quick connect with backflow preventer and adapter for connection to 3" and 4" dia. sewer pipes or 1" PVC pipe. Universal design fits vertical or horizontal sewer outlets."
Don't know if will pump uphill, but they get good reviews for short runs.Davydd wrote:

The portable Flojet Macerator comes in it's own box, with cabled alligator clips to attach to the chassis battery. It has it's own fuse wired into the on/off switch.
Using a 3/4" garden hose, it will pump 50' or more, to a sewer clean-out, depending on the upslope.
I have used mine for years pumping up about a 3' grade. Easy to keep clean by just flushing with the grey water.
I did have to add about 10 more feet onto the alligator cables.
One more thing, you need to attach a clear piece of pipe between the macerator, and the end where the slinky comes out. This is so you can shut the pump off as soon as the tank is empty. This will prevent running the pump dry, and over heating it, which I believe is the cause of a lot the macerator problems that users are having, both portable, and built in.
No one is running a hose to a toilet through my house either. :E
Here is one in use by a fellow B couple in a Pleasure-way Excel that normally is a 3" slinky gravity dump. The white hoses are water and the green hose is the dump.
I bought one of these things so I could dump my tanks at my shop via the sewer cleanout. Not quite sure how this thing will work using an on-board pumpout like I have in my van.
The problem I see in the pic above is using white hoses for the water supply. I would not use drinking water hoses for this because - yuk! I use only gray hoses for anything around the RV for wash-down and for a device like this. - mlts22ExplorerI second the clear plastic sleeve. Macerator pump motors fry fast when run dry, so being able to turn it off right before it empties and the pitch goes up prolongs its life.
Plus, it helps me confirm I'm getting enough fiber by visual inspection. - DavyddExplorerI don't know if I would hear it. My wife gets on me because I can't hear the turn signal click and leave it on. ;)
- Arizona_KidExplorerBumpy, your the greatest! :)
- BumpyroadExplorerI can hear immediately when it stops pumping.
