We mounted our remote sensor inside the generator drawer, screwed to a small block of weed that was glued to the backside of the drawer front.
It is a fair location but of course gets warmer when the sun hits the front drawer and of course if the genny runs is also too warm. But it is open enough to allow the humidistat work.
