I personally would not buy a rental because they are sold with so many miles. Not just wear and tear on the chassis, but more importantly is the RV structure. I would search for something equivalent from a private party with 1/4 the miles (or less) for the same money. Remember miles = earthquakes. That much shaking is not good for the house and appliances. And like someone previously mentioned, rentals often end up on abusive roads so extreme earthquake conditions will increase the likelihood of such hidden damage.
The best rigs found have low mileage, are stored in a shelter of some kind, and the owner has taken meticulous care of it. I feel it is worth paying notably more for such a find.
If only I could have found our rig 10 years ago when shopping for a used rig. We ended up buying a brand new one which turned out to be a good decision after-all. Then we got exactly what we wanted, and just as important, we did NOT get what we did not want. The manufacture of our rig is quite flexible and affordable concerning deviations and customizations. No deep price gouging as is common with most other manufactures.
