In my opinion, it's unlikely to be mold in the air conditioner system. Mold needs something organic to grow on, and the air conditioner evaporator is made of metal and the ductwork of metal or plastic. Mold doesn't grow on those materials.
If you do have a cabin air filter in the system, it would not hurt in the least to replace it or at least check it. Not all vehicles have such a filter. If they do, often it's behind the glove box.
