I was not double towing, as the DW was driving the truck and trailer, while I was driving the RV. We had stopped for lunch and he told me that if you are going from an adjacent state that allows RV doubles, directly to another adjacent state that allows it, then it was permissible in OR. I hooked up, while we chatted and continued south on 95 in OR with him observing my double towing. I have since continued to double tow on US-95 from ID to NV through OR and have seen OSP more than once, without ever being stopped, plus I observe other RVers also double towing on US-95.The Texan wrote:
Been towing double for many years and it is legal in over 39 states, just not some of the nanny states back east. Even OR says under certain conditions it is legal.
What conditions is it legal to double tow in Oregon? Please provide something to back up such conditions.
I called Oregon DOT last summer and was told double towing even if the first trailer is a 5th wheel was not legal.
I do not know if this is a special intrastate compact between OR, ID, NV and CA or what, but it is done on US-95 all the time.
Just because you haven't been stopped or given a ticket is not proof it's legal. I exceeded the speed limit this morning on the way to my shop and I did not get stopped, therefore speeding is legal? See my point.
In looking at your photos, you have two different things potentially making your setup illegal in many states. The length is probably the one you violate most. I know California has a 65' limit as well as other States. I think somebody posted on here NV is 70'. How long is you set up? 40 foot motorhome, 19' pickup, 3' tow bar, 12' trailer. I get 74 feet. Is that close?
If you've got away with it and no officer has bothered you, then more power to you. But that alone doesn't mean it's legal.
