You may need to separate the combination before you continue if the license or equipment is cited for being out of compliance. It is not always like a speeding ticket where you go on your merry way and deal with the citation later.
BTW all vehicles towing are limited to 55 mph in CA. Keep your speed down to avoid attracting attention. Legal or not you may just roll through without issue.
