Isn't it odd? We have a Uniform Commercial Code in the US, but as I read these postings it is obvious that there is so much variability from state to state that they are almost like seperate countries. It looks like the best thing to do is to have a very clear conversation with home state licensing/taxing authorities prior to buying things out of state.
We have a system in Oklahoma called Tag Agents. They are local businesses licensed to represent the state in all this stuff. There are three of these agents within five miles of my house, for example, so you can see they are all over and convenient. When you go into their business, you can get really good, clear direction and help............from someone that lives in your community as opposed to some voice on the phone in a state agency. Several states have this system and it really works nicely.
