Who tows a CRV??

Still love our 2009 CRV. Reliable and Tows well.

Our 2010 is our second CR-V and we love it. Only concern should be if your owners manual indicates a fuse to be pulled for extended towing...have a switch installed to negate pulling a fuse...ours was a fuse (in the 2010 crv ) that was difficult to access under the dash. Happy Trails

What a timely thread, We are going Saturday to look at a CRV for this very reason. We bought my DW a civic last year but it can’t be towed 4 down. We have a dolly and let me tell you, what a hassle. Not only is it cumbersome, dirty in the rain, and almost impossible to load in the snow, then you have to put it someplace, often moving it by hand (not the lightest things) and something bothers me about dragging my car around with straps. I know it’s done, I did it for a while but I am nervous about it the whole time. We love her civic but like I said it can’t be flat towed. So I have a few questions to those of you who set this up. First what will it cost for just the equipment (base plates, bars, wiring harness) etc? Can the work be done DIY? I do a LOT of DIY stuff and from what I have seen this isn’t that difficult. I have everything from metal drill tools to a welder to you name it. So I think I could handle it. I haven’ looked at the bumper so not sure how tough that would be. Secondly, are brakes a necessity and how difficult are they to set up? The model we are looking at is a 2011 EX AWD.

Also, does 4 down miles increment while towing?

Any advice, help or experience would be helpful to make this decision. Sorry to hijack the thread,.

The later model CRVs will deplete your battery though if you tow more than a few hours, so a battery disconnect switch, or a charge line is a must.

The main thing to consider is transmission. According to Family Motor Coaching's "Towables" list, NONE of the automatic Subarus are 4-down towable. So if you're going with an automatic, the decision is already made for you unless you go with one of those aftermarket transmission kits. This might not be the case for the older Subarus, but it does apply to the '14s.

We've towed our 2003 CRV since 2006 and love it.

I use the Ready Brute towbar with inertial braking coupled with a Blue Ox base plate on the Honda. Fast and easy to connect and, when not towing, it looks fine.

I've towed in mountains, plains, twisty roads, and many types of weather with great results. I do start the engine and shift through the gears ever 4 hours when stopping for gas or a break. I have not needed to pull any fuses, just make sure everything is turned off (radio, A/C fan, etc).

Like others, we love our CRV for similar reasons previously mentioned.

We have towed 2008 since purchased new, and only had battery problem. Don't have a charging line, and cannot disconnect battery due to supplemental braking system. Everything else great. Good choice!

Our 2006 CRV makes a great toad. Mine was among the last of the stick shift versions -- towing is a non-event.

Our 2007 CRV EXL has 138K driven miles and 69K towed miles. I still get down and disconnect the fuse. I'll probably get around to installing the switch when I'm ready to trade it in on a new CRV.:B

2002 and 2012. Both great. With 2012 and nav I had to install a charge line to keep the car battery charged while being towed by RV. Easy job to do and with my MH have a 12v. charge circuit on the 7 pin connector. There have been past discussions on this subject in the dinghy towing section of this forum.
