We upgraded from a 23' Hybrid Travel Trailer to a 32' Class C with 2 slides and a bunk house for the kids. We were happy with the trailer and really enjoyed it. However, we travel back and forth between NJ and GA to visit family. Towing became a hassle. With a 20 gallon tank getting 10 mpg, we had to stop every 150 minutes or so to get gas. That turns a 12 hour drive into a much longer one.
Having the motorhome makes that drive so much more enjoyable. Even getting 7 - 8 mpg, with a 55 gallon tank, I can still go 300 miles or so between fill ups. Since the kids and wife can stretch out on the couch or even at the dinette, they don't whine about having to stretch their legs every time we stop for gas. If we decide not to make food while traveling, we can still get take out and drive off and eat without worrying about the kids making a mess.
There were a lot of benefits to getting a motorhome that we never realized until after we bought it. We live 20 minutes from the beach and within a few minutes of several lakes. We take the motorhome to the beach and the lakes and will spend all day there. In Georgia, in the middle of summer, it's a little unbearable to be in a RV without A/C for any length of time. At the beach there is usually a breeze, but at the lake, not usually.
We also can take advantage of free overnight stops at Wal-Mart or a truck stop to get a few hours rest if need be. Again, in the middle of the summer, no A/C can be a little rough. With the trailer, we would have to stop and pay for a camp site when we only wanted to get maybe 5 or 6 hours of sleep. Most rest stops along I-95 on the east coast don't allow overnight parking.
As for not having a vehicle when we arrive, that can be a problem without a towed vehicle. However, a truck towing a 20+ foot, 6000+ lbs trailer is much different than a 25+ foot motorhome towing a car. I'll take towing a car any day.
If you want to tow a full size truck, get a Super C.
