I have not read all the replies.
We bought a C as our first and so far only RV.
We did and do not have a truck, so towing would have meant we had to buy both an RV and truck. We do not have enough room to park and RV and truck at home, but do have room for a 27 foot Class C.
Our kids were 8 dd and 11 ds when we bought and having beds for everyone that did not have to be switched to dinette or sofa was also important.
We also travel with pets (cats and dog) and having them in the RV with us was important.
We do not tow, but if we are going to be in an area for more than 4 days we will rent a car. We also live on an Island and pay $6.10 per foot over 20 feet extra for over long vehicles. An extra 20 feet is expensive and often covers the cots of a rental.
We also live stressful lives, some of trips are all about sitting around the campfire and on the beach.
When trip planning you can take in some activities on the way from one campground to another. At 27 feet, we can fit easily in most parking lots. We have stopped for an afternoon of Zip lining on route from Calgary to Vancouver.
There is not one rig fits all. What works for us and how and where we camp will not work for others.
