What I did when we started getting serious about switching from a towable to a driveable is I made a spreadsheet of every trip we had been on in recent years and marked it as whether or not we would have needed a vehicle to get around. That way we were able to see it on paper and make an honest assessment of our own needs and travel/camping style.
We obviously decided on a driveable (love it!) and have decided not to tow. Here's a post from our blog that I wrote just a few days ago where I documented our whole thought process and methods on the toad topic:
PostThe other part for us is that we didn't need a truck aside from towing, if we needed a truck anyway our whole thought process may have been different. Though I sure love not having to mess with hitching and unhitching! That first time you pull into your camp site and jam on the parking brake and that's it, that sure is sweet.
But that said, our style and goals might be drastically different than yours, so only you can make the choice that best fits your family.
