To me, a spare is just another form of insurance. Hopefully I never need it but, it's nice to know I have it if needed.
Our Southwind is equipped to carry a spare. The weight/fuel mileage has no real impact.
I also travel with at least a half tank of water. I don't worry about the gas mileage.
It's just an individual choice to carry a spare or not.
