All that means is that the 'consumer' has to now pay for a spare.
Only if you are willing to strap the spare onto your roof rack. Many new vehicles don't even have a place to store a spare. This is especially true of AWD cars.
The larger point is that the industry is moving away from the "spare tire" concept. This will slowly cause consumers to stop perceiving a spare as being necessary. It will eventually be seen for what it is: no more or less important than carrying a spare serpentine belt (but a lot less convenient). Admittedly, the RV world will be among the last to get the memo. Goes with the demographic.
