Why does a DP cost more to maintain than a Gasser?

My 8.3 Cummins requires 24 Qts of Delo 15W40. Highest quality oil filter is about $70 bucks, fuel filters are about $40. I run fuel filters until there is a reason to change them. I change oil at 12,000 miles.
