Most of those stories come from owners of gas powered motorhomes as they seem to know more about diesels then the diesel owners themselves. If you do your owns maintenance the cost should be minimal. Yes the desiccant filter has to be changed every 3 years but that's a small price to pay to have air brakes and air suspension. Filters are somewhat higher than a gas but enough to make a big difference. Fuel filters can go a couple of years without being changed, Also some shops around seem to feel that if someone owns a diesel that they are wealthy are therefore they can be ripped off.;)
