I apologize in advance for the following post and to those that do not agree that a DP engine is not more expensive to maintain:
Speedco will do a oil change and lube for around $200 on a DP. With oil sampling you will learn that you do not need to change every year so 15+K miles on most Cummins which works out to every other year for me. The black soot in diesel oil does not hurt it's lubricity. Oil changes on my ISL costs me less than $60 as I'm on my last barrel of Shell Rotella T that I paid $300 or 75 cents/quart and even today you can buy filters for less than $30. With oil coming down I'll buy a couple more later this year. You can buy Rotella T for $12/gallon so even not buying oil in bulk it's a little over $100 to do your own.
I change my primary fuel filter when I cannot get 100% power going up a long hill. I'll pull over and change it on the side of the road as a Cummins is easy to prime and I usually get 30K miles out of one.
I change my air filter when the filter minder says it's time to which was at 55K miles. If I could have gotten to the inside I would have blown it out and gone another 25K miles just like I do on the air filters on my equipment. Only RVers change their oil every year, fuel filters every year, air filters every 2-3 years... you get the picture.
Don't get me started on changing your car's oil every 3K miles as that myth was debunked 40+ years ago by Consumer Reports.
Decades ago Cat used to recommend oil changes every 100 hours but with oil sampling I was able to go 300 hours.
OK, I'll go have a beer before noon.:B
