Seriously, ignore people like that. Pretending you just do not hear them is the best way to react towards idiots.
People rarely approach me in a hostile fashion, when I'm walking my mastiff and pit bull, ( BTW: well-mannered and friendly).
My dog is also friendly BUT, if someone was screaming at me, got into my face, and grabbed me, like they did to the OP, my friendly dog just may get involved. ;)
