I have had both. Had six different RV's. Never had a fire, but had to replace electronics in one. These were all older units before the fire problems. I have now had two units with residential units. The first I bought as a salvage because it had a Norcold fire. I replaced it with a residential unit. That was all it took. The wife said no more Norcolds. My current coach came with the residential unit and the extra batteries. Having said that - I love when this topic comes up. Very entertaining to say the least. I don't think boats have had the same problem. Maybe the Norcolds didn't like the bouncing down the highway?
