I'm 300 pounds and climbed both the ladder on my Diplomat and Dutch Star. The Diplomat had the removable lower section, which I left in the garage attic. I used my collapsing ladder when on the road and my six foot step ladder at home to reach the upper half of the ladder and then climb on the coach ladder to the roof. This worked well.
On my Dutch Star, the ladder is a two piece that pivots in the middle to allow opening of the engine cover. It didn't seem as sturdy as the half ladder on the Diplomat, so I have a short adjustable pole that I place under the bottom rung to take the weight of the coach and place it directly on the bottom rung/ladder frame. The ladder is much more stable.
I also removed the screws at the joint where the horizontal ladder supports on the motor home attach to the ladder. I drilled them out and ran a bolt and locknut. This REALLY strengthened the ladder.
