Window separating

I'd asked this on the Tech Issues forum with no response. Hopefully someone here has run into this...

We were doing some spring cleaning, and found a little surprise on one of my Atwood Excel windows. These are the frameless dual pane tilt-outs.

Left side...

Right side... glass is fully separated and deflected about 3/16" away from the gasket.

The seal on the left and top are fine, but the bottom and right are separated enough that I have to cut out the bottom and left edges of the gasket, and replace it with something that will both fill the gap and hold the glass in place.

After searching around, I haven't found any usable information on the frameless windows short of replacing the entire window, which is out of the budget at $500 before shipping.

The gasket between the windows is dry, and crumbles when it's cut with a knife, which makes me think it is not butyl. Then again, after baking in the sun for 9 years, anything is possible.

Can anyone recommend a sealant that can act as both a gasket and also maintain a solid bond with the glass?

  • For the price that MotionWindows wants for a repair, I can have the tilt-outs replaced with a sliding window (which is actually our preference...).

The 3M Urethane (Window Weld) sounds like what I need -- it's made to bond glass to metal, and I'm guessing it will also bond glass to glass just as nicely.
  • Not many answers, so I dug around a little. Couldn't find much. Might only need to replace gasket? which would lower cost a lot.

I know what a hassle windows can be. Maybe you could make phone contact explain problem and then maybe e-mail in pic's to see what they recommend. Hope this helps.
  • Get the make and model of the company that made the windows...Hehr or I believe Winnie uses Atwood Dual Pane glass. See if on th off chance they are still under warranty...likely not but it won't hurt to try. You CAN DIY or have them installed.
  • I agree with Paul. Contact a mobile windshield repair service and they might have a good fix for you.

  • Urethane that used for windshield installation would work. If there is a glass shop in your area that builds dual pane glass units, they might be able to fix it.
