I've done this many times. If you are going to FW, then there is no need to bring a car. In fact, you'll have more room at your campsite without it. You can always stop at a Walmart on the way back and forth for supplies.

I highly recommend you register an account at Uber and try their service if you happen to need a ride somewhere.

Unless I am sure I will not need the toad, I always bring it. Better to have it, then to need it and not have it.

That is great until you can't get a rental. There are to many places where it is not feasible to go with a motorhome. But if you want to limit your options that is up to you.

I didn't take my toad one time on a trip to South Dakota. I rented a car for a week and I enjoyed the experience.

The last time we traveled without the tow'd was in 2003. We were going to the Indy 500 and staying with friends in Indy, stored the coach in the factory yard then parked it at the track (reserved well in advance) and used their car to get back and forth. Piece of cake until we wanted to stop near Put-in-bay on Lake Erie. The nearest campground was a two mile walk on the highway to the state park ferry out to the island (famous War of 1812 Battle site). We then walked all over the island and at night had to walk that highway back to the campground. No place to park an RV at the SP back then. Have never traveled without it since.

Now we full time and have no place to leave the tow'd.

Up to you I guess. Went from Ga to LasVegas a few years back and did not tow. Sure was a lot of places we would have liked to seen on the way out i.e. Superstition Mountains etc. Rented a car in LV and saw the city and area. If we go back via MH we will tow. Rental was relatively cheap from the Circus Circus however

But there are also many places, Like Disney that have so much at your disposal and public transportation that it's not needed. Does not mean that if you want to venture somewhere outside a certain area you don't need a car. But I thought that would be common sense. Maybe not.

Common sense suggests that plans and situations can change in an instant. Can you honestly say that you've never left the toad at home and then wished you had it along on a trip? The Yiddish proverb, "Man plans, God laughs." comes to mind. :)

Some places, like Disney for example, you simply do not need a toad. We never took ours to Va beach. Public shuttle to the beach and everything else was within biking or walking distance. I have taken my toad on several trips only to be more of a hassle because we never used it. That said there is something to be gained if you need a dinghy. We take ours about 50% of the time, really depends on where you are going and what you plan to do. Trip goes quicker without it. Easier getting into fuel stops, no hooking, unhooking. Not sure about mileage, I don't think it really affects MPG worth noting though.
