I'm not so sure about that. The vans are tested to the same duty cycle as the cutaways, and don't have any frontal area restrictions beyond other full size trucks.
I strongly suspect it may be a victim of the 2016 EPA CO2 limits for vehicles under 14,000 pounds. These new regs also mean full-profile boxes cannot be installed on the E350 with the V10. Only the V8. The E450 is not affected.
