wonder why the BF reorganizers didn't use the transit

The MB chassis has a higher payload capacity which could have driven BF's decision.

The Ford 5 cylinder diesel will work just fine IMO. Lots of Sprinter based RVs running around with less power and just a 5 speed gearbox.
