Help! Just returned from our first camping trip, as soon as we arrived at the campsite the people behind us had the most awful smelling smokey campfire going and it all came rushing in through our win...

Camping to many people is a camp fire, hot dogs, and s'mores.
It is all about choices and some amount of respect.
If the wind blows smoke your way, YOU have a choice and it sure isn't making the wind blow a different direction or asking the other campers to put out their camp fire.
You "wanted the whole camping experience, birds singing, etc." and got more than you really wanted from another camper wanting "their whole camping experience".
An ozone generator can also remove smoke smells. A thorough cleaning will be a good start with an airing out.
My 5th wheel camper almost always came home from a NASCAR weekend smelling like campfire smoke. I cleaned it and let it air out and all was good for the next trip.
