Workhorse Dash Cluster Recall

I couldn't read the mileage on my speedo and I didn't know what gear the transmission is in. I took my coach to Imperial RV a Non Workhorse repair shop in my area. I informed Imperial RV about the Dash Cluster Recall and to look into it! Imperial RV contacted Workhorse about the Dash Cluster Recall? Workhorse informed Imperial RV that the Dash Cluster Recall pertains only to the ABS Sensor on the dashboard. Workhorse also told Imperial RV that I had a dashboard screen problem and there is no recall on Workhorse dashboard screens. I had to have my dashboard screen removed and shipped elsewhere for repair. I hope is post will clear up the Dashboard Recall and what it pertains to.
  • Hope this helps. If you Google "Workhorse Dash Cluster Recall" several sites pop up that claim they will repair it:

    50402-C Actia Instrument Cluster

Workhorse Custom Chassis has decided that a non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) 101 and 105, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain subject models with Actia Instrument cluster. The non-compliances involve incorrect software programmed into the cluster such that certain driver warnings required by Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) are not displayed. Incorrect software may not have the ability to illuminate warning lamps indicating brake system failure codes. FMVSS require river warning when brake failure codes are set.
  • Here is a place that does great work on Workhorse chassis and they have a service to repair or replace the Actia dash. They are located right up in Washington State. Actia dash repair
  • Sounds like they should be covering the entire thing if the problem is related. Sounds fishy. Call around to recall stations and see what they say.
  • The Actia recall was for a software correction that prevented the ABS sensor from showing up on the LED screen. It did not cover the LED screen itself.
  • J-Rooster,

Brazels RV has a repair kit they can ship out. Since you are close to Centralia they can also install.

  • J-Rooster,

I made a post on a similar thread to this that's currently running. It sounds like a contrast adjustment is needed, not necessarily a replacement of the display. An LCD contrast adjustment usually can drive the characters from invisible to fully darkened blocks. Sounds like yours is close to the "invisible" setting.

I found this which might be a solution to your problem on this thread on the irv2.com Forums:

"You need to adjust your display contrast. It's on the "settings" menu, I believe. To adjust contrast press and hold mode button for 5 seconds. Then highlight contrast adjustment. once highlighted wait 3 or 4 seconds it will take you to contrast adjustments. Once there you press T for "+" or M for "-". To exit go to exit menu or turn ignition off then back on. Hope this helps. "

I didn't get a chance to try it out on my WH, but I do remember there being a contrast adjustment in the settings, so I think this will hopefully work for you. I believe the ignition has to be "on" for this to work...but maybe not. Try it both ways if needed.

Perhaps even better, check out this document posted on Oemy's site about the Actia Display: Oemy's Performance Actia Service Manual pdf . Page 37 has the info I believe you'd be interested in. I noted that my menu looks a bit different than the one shown, but hopefully most of the info is applicable. I did notice these instructions: "On-board diagnostic functions can be initiated and executed with transmission in park, the park
brake is set and the Mode switch is depressed for longer than 5 seconds."

ON EDIT: I just went out to test this on my 2004 chassis WH W-22. The ignition has to be in the "Run" position...the leveling jacks deployed whistle gets to be annoying very quickly! LOL Anyway, follow the instructions on the manual posted above. You have to let go of the "M" key after 5 seconds and the display should show "Contrast". The adjustment, however, only goes from blacking the letter out entirely to still easily readable. It wouldn't lighten the letters too much. So a contrast adjustment might not be the solution. However, there is a "Restore Default" setting for the display which might be worth a shot. There's some neat information available by following the various menus available. I found out the top speed I have hit on my motorhome was 80.3 mph!!! Yikes....must've been when wifey was driving home from Florida a couple of weeks ago! LOL

    Good Luck,

    ~Rick
