I am buying almost all of my vehicles long-distance for years and I ditto of not making any significant downpament.
$300 holding deposit via PayPal is all I usually agree.
Inspection is a bit tricky. Sure you have warranty for break-downs, but do you have warranty for cosmetics?
Years ago I drove almost 2 hr to see high-end SUV.
"Clean car, well maintained with almost new tires"
I arrived earlier to the property where the SUV was on the driveway.
The vehicle did not have single body panel without scratch on it.
The rear tires were bold on the inner sides, while via tinted windows I could see bubble gum on the seats.
I did not wait for the seller to come, but he was offended when I "accused" him of misrepresentation.
So when $1000 for inspection might be overkill, you should be able to find RV technician who can spend 1 hr for $200 to visually inspect it.
It did happen in the past that forum member living close did "go there" for short peek.
