Ok guys. I just got off the phone with Mark Zimmerman, Senior Division Administrator (the top dog). He is understanding that the pump sticker and the law wording is not very clear. Mark told me that the way he reads the law is that ALL privately owned RVs are exempt from paying the higher fuel tax. His reasoning is that a "use fuel vehicle" is a vehicle used for commerce or hire, including a "passenger carrying" vehicle. I told him that even in his own office, other people are interpreting this law differently. Mark said that he would have meeting with them and get everyone on the same track. Also, he said that he would come up with some kind of "legal" wording to email me to satisfy any DOT officer and the rest of us who may still question his determination of this law. All I know for now, but at least I will feel a little better when I go to fill my coach at our local fuel station.
OUTSTANDING WORK! Lets hope he actually does it now. Bligh, however, iS going to need to call Zimmerman and tell him he's wrong!
Not true. If he will put it in writing and has the authority to do so, it will work for me and I will be glad to see it. However, it is interesting that Zimmerman is not shown as the Director or Assistant Director for any department within the Arizona Department of Transportation. I did find his name in the total state employee directory, but no title was shown. If he is an Administrator as indicated above, he may or may not be an authority to publish anything. If/when he does publish something, we can then see what department he actually works for and if the Director for the department approves? Who knows. Been down this road before.
