Your guys's opinion on do this repair myself or take it in?

I'd do it myself and I'd also replace the fan clutch while I was at it. Of course this all assumes that you have or can borrow the tools to do the job. I think the local Autozone will lend you the tool to pull the fan clutch from the water pump.
